Compensation: $12hr + Tips

Moon Cake Café is a brand new small family owned walk-up Vegan/Vegetarian café opening near the Santa Cruz Boardwalk & Wharf in early 2021. We are looking for a responsible, reliable, friendly, outgoing, professional part-time barista to assist Mon-Fri with daily café operations. Must have open availability 6:30am-5pm (May-Oct) & 6:30am-4pm (Nov-April). You will be managing the bar independently the majority of the time & have support from the owner when it gets busy. You will perform daily opening duties of the bar Mon-Fri and will need to arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the café opening daily depending on the season. The owner will take over duties to allow for breaks & lunch and will close the bar daily, owner will also be present in back office/stock room and available for food/drink/cashier support as needed through the day. Possibility for more hours during busy season (May-Oct). We will have outdoor seating that will require table bussing, we will also be selling beer/wine and per the State of California you need to be 18+ to legally ring up customers for these transactions.

Responsibilities:

• Greeting customers in a friendly manner and taking food and drink orders

• Preparing and serving beverages, ranging from simple to elaborate

• Preparing and serving food items such as soups, sandwiches and pastries

• Answering customers' questions about menu choices & proving insight into menu items that meet specific dietary restrictions

• Ensure the prevention of cross contamination of Gluten Free options for customers with dietary restrictions

• Promoting and recommending menu options to customers

• Taking payment from customers, promote tipping, manage POS system

• Maintaining inventory and equipment by cleaning, troubleshooting and scheduling repairs

• Keeping the work environment sanitary per Covid guidelines, following all safety guidelines and restrictions

• Evaluating and modifying processes to improve efficiency and quality of service 

• Working to attract new customers and expanding the menu

• Cleaning the café daily, following daily/weekly/monthly cleaning checklists

Required Skills:

• Knowledge of vegan, vegetarian & gluten free lifestyles + dietary restrictions

• Previous barista experience required

• Previous food handling experience required

• Friendly & professional demeanor

• Positive attitude, customer service forward thinking

• Ability to keep composure when dealing with unruly customers

• Must be comfortable with selling add-ons, upgrades, merchandise, promoting specials etc.

• Must be self-driven and self-managed

Preferred Skills:​

• Knowledge of the coffee industry

• Knowledge of craft beer industry

• Previous sales experience

• Social Media marketing experience

Bonus Skills:

• Ability to execute latte art designs

• Signage design (for daily drink specials etc.)
